Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility Requirement: Applicants must meet all eligibility criteria for Canada Summer Jobs funding. This includes being between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment, a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred, and legally entitled to work in Canada. Position Overview We are seeking enthusiastic, energetic, and caring summer students to join our team as Camp Counsellors and Community Ministry Workers. In this multifaceted role, you will plan and lead exciting day camps and sport camps for children and youth, provide meaningful programming and companionship for seniors in our community, and participate in children’s ministry activities on Sundays. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of people across all ages while developing valuable leadership, program planning, and interpersonal skills. Key ResponsibilitiesDay Camps & Sport Camps - Plan, prepare, and organize engaging day camp and sport camp programming for children and youth - Lead daily camp activities, including games, crafts, team-building exercises, and skill-building sessions - Design and implement sport-specific activities and skill development drills appropriate for camper age groups - Ensure the physical and emotional safety and well-being of all campers at all times - Manage group dynamics, resolve conflicts, and foster a positive, inclusive camp culture - Set up and clean up program areas, equipment, and materials before and after daily activities - Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and supervisors regarding camper progress and any concerns - Adapt programming to meet the needs and abilities of all participants Senior Community Programming - Develop and deliver engaging programs, activities, and social events for seniors - Provide friendly companionship, conversation, and social interaction to reduce isolation - Assist with gentle recreational activities and cognitive/creative programming - Support seniors with dignity and respect, maintaining sensitivity to their unique needs - Collaborate with team members and supervisors to coordinate senior programming schedules Children’s Ministry (Sundays) - Participate actively in Sunday children’s ministry programs and activities - Assist with the preparation and delivery of age-appropriate lessons, crafts, and games. - Provide a welcoming, nurturing, and safe environment for all children - Support ministry leadership in coordinating volunteers and program logistics on Sundays General Responsibilities - Attend all required staff training sessions, team meetings, and debriefs - Maintain accurate records, attendance logs, and incident/accident reports as required - Model positive behaviour, enthusiasm, and a servant-hearted attitude at all times - Contribute to a healthy and cooperative team environment - Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors Qualifications & RequirementsRequired - Must qualify for Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) funding – see eligibility note above - Previous experience working with children, youth, or seniors in a camp, recreation, ministry, or volunteer setting - Solid leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills - Demonstrated ability to plan and facilitate group activities and programs - Enthusiastic, patient, and compassionate approach to working with people of all ages - Ability to work both independently and as part of a team - Successful completion of a vulnerable sector police background check Preferred / Assets - Post-secondary education or enrollment in Recreation, Education, Kinesiology, Social Work, or a related field - Experience in sports instruction, coaching, or athletic programming - Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification - Experience working with seniors or in eldercare/social programs - Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate programming Working Conditions This position involves a combination of indoor and outdoor work, including physical activities such as sports, games, and recreational programming. Candidates should be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Some moderate lifting and physical exertion are required. The role involves direct, sustained contact with children, youth, and seniors. Work Week Sunday – Thursday Note on Sundays Sunday hours are dedicated to participation in children’s ministry. Friday and Saturday are regularly scheduled days off.
