Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) specializing in Mental Health and Addictions to join our healthcare team during weekdays and overnights. This role involves providing comprehensive mental health care, supporting patients through various treatment modalities, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality patient‑centered services. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, experience in mental health settings, and familiarity with a wide range of nursing procedures and EMR/EHR systems. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment focused on improving patient outcomes across diverse populations, including developmental disabilities, geriatrics, and acute mental health needs.Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care within a therapeutic residential setting. Manage patients’ physical and psychiatric needs, support withdrawal management protocols, and foster a safe, supportive environment for recovery. Conduct comprehensive client intakes and assessments. Perform and document CIWA (Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol) and COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale) evaluations to guide symptom‑triggered detoxification protocols.Monitor clients’ vital signs, mental status, and overall well‑being. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed. Coordinate and set up appointments with physicians and specialists. Act as a liaison between clients and doctors, ensuring clear communication of client progress and concerns.Provide client education on health, medications, and recovery principles. Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, therapists, counselors, and support staff. Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records. Uphold the highest standards of professional ethics and client confidentiality.Qualifications
Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as an RN or RPN. Demonstrated experience and competence in performing CIWA and COWS assessments. Solid understanding of mental health disorders, addiction medicine, and psychopharmacology. Experience in a mental health or addictions treatment setting.Excellent assessment, clinical judgment, and crisis intervention skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an empathetic and non‑judgmental approach. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a close‑knit team. Current CPR/BLS certification. Valid licensure as an RN or RPN with current registration to practice in the relevant jurisdiction.Experience with CIWA/COWS. Proven experience in mental health settings; experience in behavioral health, geriatrics (including dementia care), or substance use/addictions is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration. Ability to adhere to infection control protocols and maintain sterile techniques during procedures.Fostering professional growth through ongoing education and teamwork. What We Offer
