Job Description This job would begin as an Assistant Instructor position and progress to Head Instructor once familiar with our programming. Assistants help with the daily on ice programs under the direct supervision of the Head Instructor. The Head instructor leads on-ice hockey skill development programs and private lessons for various levels of athletes. The objective is to ensure quality programs are planned, developed, and presented to the customer on a continual basis providing the optimal opportunity for development and enjoyment. Employees within this job classification must possess robust interpersonal skills. Communication with participants and customers is required to ensure the program meets and exceeds client standards. The Head Instructor position is differentiated from that of the Assistant Instructor through the level of skill, experience, preparedness, and responsibility required for supervising, assisting, planning, and evaluating. The Head Instructor must take responsibility for all happenings within a session. Typical Duties and Responsibilities - Develop practice plans and drills that relate to the skill-specific program(s). - Run on-ice skills sessions for up to 12 participants at a time. - Produce a safe environment for participants by ensuring The Zone Training safety regulations are being met. - Review and have thorough knowledge of Zone programs and hockey in general. - Supervise, allocate, and participate in the work of assistant instructors. - Communicate with participants and the customer (parents) to ensure satisfaction. - Review work of assistants and ensure standards are maintained. Qualifications - Must have 2+ years experience playing hockey at a competitive level (Jr. A or higher) - Must have experience working at a hockey school or teaching individual skill development - Must have thorough knowledge of hockey fundamentals and skill development - Able to present themselves professionally and communicate appropriately with all customers and staff members - Ability to take direction and respond in a timely manner - Must be physically able to skate for 50 minutes continuously for up to 6 hours in a row - Able to work and train in cold on-ice conditions Schedule - Shifts will vary depending on candidate schedule. There is a minimum 3 shifts per week required, and there could be up to 5. - Start time as early as 3:30pm or 4:30pm during the week. - Shifts can be up to anywhere from 3-6 hours on-ice with 10 minute breaks between sessions. Requirements - First-Aid / CPR required. - Staff must purchase uniform (tracksuit and gloves) - Staff must wear their own helmet during on-ice sessions or can purchase one through us at our cost.
