Description
Job Description We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to be part of a new plant start‑up based in Port Colborne, Ontario. The incumbent will maintain and repair equipment to ensure plant and production reliability that aligns with the site’s operational goals, while maintaining environmental and safety standards. Key Accountabilities Work with the Maintenance Leader to plan and implement maintenance strategies and policies. Collect and analyze maintenance data and implement improvement activities. Issue maintenance results reports on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis. Responsible for risk assessment, occupational safety and health standards to ensure site safety. During plant construction, assist with construction and capital projects from concept to project closure, support start‑up and internal checkout of electrical installations on project work. Install and commission extrusion equipment, bonding, ovens, winding, conversion slitting and packaging, thin film web handling and tension control, online analyzers, and inspection equipment. Troubleshoot electrical breakdowns. Update electrical drawings in the document control system. Evaluate performance of mechanical, electromechanical, electrical, and other plant systems and recommend improvements and cost savings. Maintain high level of safety for all employees throughout the project process. Recognize developing technical problems and initiate appropriate corrective actions. Qualifications Education Background: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering required. Knowledge & Experience: 3+ years of experience with maintenance and repair of equipment in a manufacturing or industrial workplace. Previous experience with capital projects and new site construction is a plus, including installation of equipment, startup and testing; ability to interpret detailed construction plans and electrical line drawings is a plus. Experience executing multiple projects in support of other disciplines. Proficient in AutoCAD (standard or electrical) and MS Office products. Proficient in NEC, ISA, NEMA codes and standards. Familiar with design of power circuits at 480 V and below, motors and motor controls, and temperature and pressure controls. Experience working for a global organization with cross‑cultural interaction is strongly preferred. Key Attributes: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences across all levels of the organization. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to influence others to move projects forward. Travel Must be able and willing to travel up to 15% domestically and abroad for training and visits to other company locations. Schedule Must be willing to work a flexible schedule for emergencies and to attend in‑person meetings and conference calls outside normal business hours. The incumbent can flex working hours to accommodate. Working Environment This position will be based in a temporary structure on or near a construction site until the permanent office is built in 2026. The final work environment will be a 24/7 manufacturing operation that involves chemicals, moving mechanical parts, and heavy machinery. Work is 80% desk‑based but requires standing and walking for 20% of the time. Lifts up to 35 pounds may be required. The position is identified as safety sensitive with frequent exposure to chemicals, moving mechanical parts, and heavy machinery in a construction and manufacturing environment.
