Foyer Richelieu Welland is a non-profit facility dedicated to providing superior long-term care services to French-speaking seniors. Located in Welland, in the beautiful Niagara region, we have received the Canadian Business Award for Best Long-Term Care Home in Ontario for three consecutive years. ***This is a bilinguals jobs(French and English) *** Reporting to the Recreology Department, in collaboration with the Care and Support Services Department, the chosen candidate will plan, organize and lead the activities agreed upon and scheduled each month. Participate in the facilitation of a variety of activities, including large group, small group and one-on-one. Encourage and invite residents to participate in activities. Engage residents in person-to-person social exchange. Help set up and run the virtual tour program. Facilitate programs aimed at reducing isolation, Montessori and entertainment activities, including one-to-one visits. These activities must meet the needs and expectations of the residents and the standards permitted by federal and provincial legislation, as well as internal company policies. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES - At the beginning of each month, the person in charge of recreation must propose a list of activities he or she plans to carry out, based on the type of activity already on the calendar. - As soon as she arrives at the facility, she must report to the registered nurse on duty to inquire about any special situations since her last shift, and to notify her of her arrival. - Check the activity schedule to ensure that there have been no changes in the planning of activities. - Check the animation department's communication booklet to make sure there are no special notes or changes to the schedule. - Prepare the room where the main activity will take place, to avoid delaying the activity. Gather residents interested in taking part in the activity, and seek out those who need help or stimulation to participate. - Be sure to pay special attention to each and every participant to avoid isolation or dissatisfaction. - If food must be handled during the activity, make sure everything is done according to hygiene standards. - Record attendance at each activity for statistical purposes. - At the end of your shift, report to the registered nurse on duty and inform her of your departure and any special situations. - Leave notes in the department's communication book if anything special has happened. - Tidy up the premises after the activity and clean up and replace used equipment. - Carry out any other tasks requested by the immediate superior. - Help and plan activities - Help with therapeutic programs - Helping with One-to-One programs - Help with garden maintenance - Help transport residents during meal times - Assist with resident nutrition during meals OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES - Easy with technology, like tablet, cell phone for video conferencing. - Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. - Ability to maintain resident confidentiality. - Excellent time management skills. - Demonstrates excellent organizational skills, autonomy, initiative and creativity. - Be respectful of residents and families - Some knowledge of dementia diseases - A certain knowledge of food and its composition, preparation and maintenance - Excellent verbal and written communication skills with seniors and in public - Be able to observe reactions and encourage residents - Have a creative mind - Responsible for equipment and disinfection - Ability to work with minimal supervision - Good communication with families and involving them in activities - Managing students and volunteers - Perform any other tasks required by the Executive Directors and General Management. SKILLS REQUIRED - Higher education diploma (or enrolment in a recreation and leisure, therapeutic recreation, gerontology, kinesiology or related diploma course). - Minimum 1 years' experience in a similar role, ideally in the healthcare or long-term care sector. - Thorough knowledge of Ontario labour laws, including employment standards, health and safety, and labour relations. - Excellent communication skills in French and English (oral and written). - Robust interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team. - Organizational skills and ability to manage several files simultaneously. - Love the elderly and be respectful with residents and families - Some knowledge of dementia diseases - Good attendance and attention to detail.
