Parks Student, Welland

About the Position Reporting to the Manager of Parks, Forestry, and Cemeteries and/or Parks Project Coordinator, the Park and Forestry Co‑op Student will research and assist with the development of projects that enhance services within the Parks and Forestry Section of the City of Welland. This position will also provide administrative support to the Parks and Forestry Supervisors.

Duties&Responsibilities

Conduct inspections and GPS field data collection of Parks and Cemetery assets, including signage, garbage receptacles, memorial benches, trees, monuments, etc.

Research and assist with the development of a Tree By‑law and/or a temporary pilot program to allow e‑bikes on trails.

Assist with the facilitation of community engagement activities, park planning initiatives, and other related projects as required.

Provide administrative support, including maintaining records, scanning, and filing documents related to Parks and Forestry projects.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you need to Succeed...

Enrolled full‑time in a Business Administration, Horticulture/Landscape, Forestry, or related post‑secondary program and returning to school in September (Proof of enrolment required).

Ability to work with limited supervision and to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Prior experience in an office environment is considered an asset.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.

Knowledge of GIS software, including Esri ArcGIS suite, is considered an asset.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong organizational and analytical skills, with ability to multi‑task.

Valid Class "G" driver’s license with clean driving record.

Salary and Benefit Information $21.48/hour (2026 rate) plus OMERS pension is available. Optional participation in the OMERS pension plan, one of Canada’s largest defined benefit pension plans, as an Other Than Continuous Full Time member.
