The Niagara SPCA and Humane Society is seeking a compassionate and motivated Veterinary Assistant to support our General Wellness Clinic and Spay/Neuter Clinic. In this role you’ll assist veterinarians and registered veterinary technicians in providing safe, efficient, and compassionate care to animals, while helping maintain a calm, positive environment for pets and their owners. This position combines hands‑on animal care, client interaction, and administrative support, and may involve lifting and transferring animals safely.Responsibilities– General Wellness Clinic
Providing friendly, high-quality care to patients and clients. Receiving and responding to incoming phone calls and emails as needed. Scheduling appointments, invoicing, and processing transactions. Assisting DVMs and RVTs during appointments. Patient restraint and general animal care. Restocking supplies.Cleaning and maintaining overall hospital cleanliness. Responsibilities– Spay/Neuter Clinic
Assist with intake, weighing, and recording animal information. Support veterinarians and RVTs with surgical prep, sedation, and recovery. Safely move animals to and from the operating and recovery areas. Insert microchips and prepare post-operative packages for clients. Prepare paperwork and reminders for upcoming appointments.Assist with cleaning instruments, kennels, laundry, and general clinic sanitation. Qualifications and Skills
Education: Vet Assistant Certificate preferred. Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in veterinary medicine. Confident and compassionate animal handling skills. Skilled communication skills (in person, phone, and email). Reliable, team-oriented, and adaptable. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.Benefits
