Valbruna ASW Inc., the premier specialty steel-making facility located in Welland, ON, has an immediate requirement for the following position: Automation Technician Valbruna ASW Inc. operates a dynamic and versatile facility and has a long and storied history in the steel-making business, with roots in Welland dating back to 1918. Our acquisition by Valbruna Italy combined with improvements in efficiency and production flexibility have placed us among the premier specialty steel producers in North America. Reporting to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager, the Automation Technician’s duties and responsibilities include the following: · Troubleshoots and maintains existing critical process control systems utilizing PLCs, HMIs and other intelligent electronic devices. · Maintains, develops and improves control concepts, program design and instrumentation/operator interfaces. · Designs, develops and implements upgrades/enhancements to existing process control systems. · Understands the processes and technology involved in melting, refining, casting and pouring steel and applies the appropriate solutions to maximize operational efficiencies. · Works effectively with both hourly trades and production workers as well as with management. · On-call response to high-priority issues is expected and occasional after-hours commissioning of new code systems may be required. The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes: · Experienced in PLC and HMI programming including Allen Bradley, ControlLogix /RS Logix, Siemens, Wonderware and Factory Talk. · Electrician license (309A or 442A) or PLC certification would be considered an asset. · Working knowledge of automated systems and can show a good understanding of the basic theory of industrial control systems applications, design and operation. · Demonstrates the ability to read and understand electrical schematic diagrams, blueprints and pneumatic/hydraulic systems. · Strong computer skills including MS Office, Access, PCS/SCADA as well as experience with computer-assisted design, manufacturing and machining. · Experience with communication protocols (e.g. Remote I/O, Modbus over TCP/IP is required as well as basic knowledge of computer networking, Ethernet connections, TCP/IP protocol). · General knowledge of VFD drives and motors. · Strong communication skills and a proven ability to problem-solve under pressure. · Must have a strong willingness to work in a quick-paced, lean environment where adaptability, innovation and hard work are valued above all else. · Experience developing and configuring PC-based relational databases, SQL data transfer and database reporting tools in MS Access would be considered an asset.
