Under the direction of the Sensisyusten Principal, the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)/Literacy Coach will oversee the development, planning, and scheduling of student Speech Language supports and programming. This position will also be working collaboratively with teachers and the Learning Support Teacher and in alignment with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and student SMART Goals, will provide literacy intervention strategies and additional programming for students identified as requiring extra support. The main focus of the program is to provide positive, holistic, inclusive, culturally appropriate practices that include students and families at the center.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree level and experience as a Speech/Language Pathologist. Experience working collaboratively in classrooms with teachers to develop classroom plans for students with speech language concerns. Experience working collaboratively in classrooms with teachers/Learning Support Teacher to develop classroom plans for students with Literacy/Reading concerns.Experience providing liaison with programs offered by external agencies Experience providing liaison between home and school for children in need of social, emotional support. Experience working with Indigenous children and families. Thorough understanding of the history and culture of Indigenous people.Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered REQUIREMENTS

Be registered and with good standing with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC(CSHBC). Criminal Record check with Vulnerable Sector Search with results acceptable to WFN. Maintain a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of Sensisyusten School and clients.JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

Willings to work in a collaborative/team environment. Develop appropriate programs in support of students with speech language concerns and literacy challenges. Observe clients and use tests and examinations to diagnose and measure delays and disorders Talk to students and families about the nature and impact of their disorders and discuss extra supportsSchedule extra support and programming for students Advocate for students with language impairments Compile and maintain proper records Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards, and procedures. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Provide assessment, remediation and consultative help for children with disorders in communication. Provide programs and services for children with a wide range of communication disorders (voice, language, articulation/phonology, fluency) and augmentative/alternative communications needs.
