Number of Available positions: Vacancies: 15 On-call Early Childhood Educator ** The requirements of On-Call availability to support the operations of the child care programs are Monday to Friday between the hours of 6:30am and 6:00pm. Reporting to the Child Care Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing an environment where children are educated and supervised while meeting the individual and developmental needs of each child through the implementation of planned curriculums according to legislative and regional policies. The incumbent will: - Supervise children according to the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, The Early Childhood Educators Act and approved Regional practices; ensure attendance is monitored and ratios are met - Develop/implement the Early Childhood Education Program meeting the expectation set out in the Durham Region Operating Criteria, incorporate ELECT principles and focus on the foundations in How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years; conduct weekly planning and daily implementation of programs; complete the Looksee checklist; set goals/objectives for the children; organize the classroom; assist with mealtimes - Provide quality service through direct communication with parents/guardians; share information regarding the daily program, their child's day and development; discuss concerns, offer advice/suggestions, as appropriate - Make daily notes on the progress/development of the children to include in children's portfolios and pedagogical documentation; complete various daily forms including electronic communication with families (Lillio); health related forms; record all messages/information in the daily log book; receive payments/issue receipts for child care fees - Maintain the health and safety of the children; offer comfort/care; attend to their physical needs; set up visually appealing playrooms, offer a variety of activities; supervise the use of a variety of playground equipment/activities as outlined in the weekly program plan - Maintain the health and safety of the facility; clean and sanitize toys/equipment in accordance with schedules; set up/tidy the playground; clean and sanitize the washroom areas as well as tidy the kitchen; sweep/mop floors as required; perform physical checks of all areas upon arrival/departure; engage/disengage the security system and check system messages - Plan/implement special events, community events and public displays; offer guidance/direction/support to students/ volunteers and assist in the completion of student placement paperwork The successful candidate will possess: - A Diploma in Early Childhood Education or equivalent as deemed by the College of Early Childhood Educators - A current certificate of registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators is required - A valid/current Standard First Aid Certification and Infant and Child CPR Certification - Experience in a child development setting applying curriculum implementation, teaching strategy and Behaviour Management techniques - Knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, the Early Childhood Educators Act, Child and Family Services Act, College of Early Childhood Educators Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, - Durham Region's Operating Criteria, How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years, WHMIS, Health Protection and Promotion Act as well as community resources in the Durham Region - A commitment to treating all clients and colleagues with dignity, respect and cultural sensitivity - Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; conflict resolution and decision-making skills - Proficient time management, observation and behaviour management skills - The ability to work independently and as part of a team - The ability to travel to any of the Child Care Centres within Durham Region (Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Bowmanville and Sunderland) as required CUPE 1764 Salary Grade 5 This position is with Salary Grade 5 and will be paid at the following hourly rates: - Start: $41.44 - Six Month: $43.74 - Job: $46.04 Conditions of Employment All applicants are expected to comply with the Region of Durham's Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct Policies throughout the recruitment process. Prior to the start date, the successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated within two (2) months from date of hire. Additionally, tuberculosis screening and proof of immunization will be required in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA) Ontario Regulation 137/15.
