Backup Provider – Licensed Home Child Care (Whitby)

Job Description: Seeking a reliable, caring, and responsible Backup Child Care Provider to support a licensed home daycare when the primary provider is unavailable. The successful candidate will help maintain a safe, nurturing, and structured environment for children in accordance with home daycare policies and childcare best practices. The backup provider will be responsible for caring for up to 6 children, including up to 3 children under the age of 2. This role requires someone who is attentive, organized, and passionate about working with young children. Key Responsibilities: - Supervise and provide attentive care for up to 6 children in a home daycare setting - Support daily routines including meals, naps, playtime, and transitions - Change diapers and assist with toileting as required - Feed children and follow proper food safety guidelines - Plan and lead age-appropriate, engaging activities such as arts and crafts, sensory play, reading, music, and outdoor play - Maintain a strict no-screen-time environment - Ensure children’s health, safety, and well-being at all times - Complete and maintain daily paperwork and documentation, including activity logs and incident reporting when required - Follow all daycare policies, licensing requirements, and health and safety regulations - Be comfortable working in a home environment equipped with cameras for safety and supervision - Work independently and responsibly with little to no supervision when required Required Qualifications: - Clear Vulnerable Sector Check - Completed 2-Step TB (Tuberculosis) Test - Standard First Aid & CPR Level C Certification - Food Handler’s Certificate - Willingness to complete any additional required training - Reliable transportation to and from the daycare location - Fluent in English (spoken and written) Skills & Attributes: - Patient, nurturing, and dependable - Strong communication and organizational skills - Comfortable caring for infants and toddlers - Ability to safely supervise multiple children - Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities confidently - Professional and able to follow established routines and policies Preferred: - Previous experience working in a daycare, home childcare, or early childhood environment - Knowledge of early childhood development and play-based learning Legal & Safety Notice: - This home daycare is licensed under Ontario’s Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and operates in compliance with all provincial regulations. - All staff must adhere to the daycare’s policies, health and safety procedures, and reporting requirements. - The successful candidate must provide documentation for all required certifications, immunizations, and health screenings (including a completed 2-step TB test) before beginning work. - All employees are expected to respect children’s privacy and confidentiality, as well as maintain professional conduct at all times. - This role may involve being recorded on security cameras for the safety of children, staff, and the home workplace.
