Senior Structural Designer (Whitby)

McCrae Recruiting is hiring a Senior Structual Designer for our business partner in the Durham Region. This is an on-site opportunity for an experienced drafting and design professional with a strong background in structural design, CAD drafting, and industrial/manufacturing environments. Key Responsibilities Drafting & Design - Create and revise 2D CAD drawings and structural designs for storage systems - Develop 3D models and assemblies for manufacturing and production - Produce production, permit, engineering, installation, and sales drawings - Manage drawing revisions and project documentation - Perform preliminary engineering and capacity calculations - Maintain drawing standards, file organization, and version control - Determine appropriate materials and components based on project requirements Project Coordination - Lead complex design and drafting projects from concept to completion - Coordinate with Engineering, Production, Sales, and Quality teams - Review layouts, specifications, and structural requirements - Communicate with clients, consultants, architects, and vendors - Support project timelines, approvals, and production readiness Leadership & Mentorship - Mentor and support junior Designers - Assist with onboarding and training initiatives - Contribute to drafting standards and process improvements - Support innovation in tools, systems, and workflows Qualifications - Minimum 7+ years of drafting/design experience utilizing the OBC for commercial builds is required - Minimum 3+ years in a senior, lead, or project-focused design role - Must have advanced proficiency in AutoCAD - Strong understanding of structural and architectural drawings - Advanced Excel skills, including formulas and functions - Post-secondary education in Engineering Technology, Drafting, Industrial Design or related field - Experience with structural steel, racking systems, or industrial storage systems is required - Proficiency with SolidWorks is considered an asset - Manufacturing or industrial industry experience - Programming experience in Visual Basic is considered an asset - Experience using AI tools to support drafting, workflows, or research What We’re Looking For - Strong technical drafting and design skills - Detail-oriented and highly organized - Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines - Strong communication and coordination skills - Leadership and mentoring abilities - Problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement Why Apply? - Join a growing and stable organization - Work on complex industrial design projects - Collaborative and supportive team environment - Prospect for long-term growth and leadership Apply Today McCrae Recruiting welcomes applications from qualified candidates interested in joining a dynamic team in Durham Region.
