JR100388**Department**Public&Strategic Affairs**Job Type**Temporary**Number of Positions**1**Affiliation**Non-Union**Compensation Range**$76,581.00 - $95,725.00**Job Summary**Reporting to the Supervisor of Government and Council Relations, the Communications Coordinator (Housing Initiatives) is primarily responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the Town’s communications activities related to housing initiatives. This includes creating engaging and appealing strategies to encourage new housing unit development, executing housing related advocacy and stakeholder engagement and coordinating housing related reporting to upper levels of government.
The position makes recommendations to elevate and enhance the Town’s presence and reputation related to housing. It also provides communications support to the Mayor and Council, and other Departments as directed.
Other responsibilities include supporting the Government and Council Relations team with communications, advocacy, and event support related to Mayor and Council and Corporate initiatives.**Job Duties Include**The following responsibilities and duties of this position includes but is not limited to:* Develop and coordinate communications campaigns for corporate, department and council initiatives related to housing (messaging, digital assets, etc.)* Develop and implement communications and engagement plans for corporate and Council initiatives, with a focus on housing* Coordinate, track and respond to housing-related inquiries* Write professional materials and other communication products* Assist supervisor with government relations and advocacy work, with a focus on housing* Support the planning and execution of corporate events* Provide support to the Mayor and Council as directedQualifications/Skills
* Diploma in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or related discipline (communications or social media certification)* 1-3 years of experience, preferable in a government or agency environment, or the equivalent combination of education and experience* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Social Media Management software* Experience with developing and executing communications and/or advocacy campaigns and plans* Event planning and support experience* Strong interpersonal skills, proven ability to work on multiple competing priorities and deliver results* Ability to work independently or in a team environment* Well-developed organization and time management skills* Strong written and verbal communications skills* Creative&Innovative thinker, keen ability to identify emerging trends and apply in municipal context* Must be prepared to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends at various Town locationsNice to Have* Familiarity and experience with planning and development, government relations or housing-related policies and practices of other levels of government considered an assetWhat is Offered to Staff Compensation:
* Compensation: We offer competitive pay that reflects the responsibilities of the position. The posting reflects old rates; the updated 2026 rates now range from $80,870 to $101,087.* Contract Duration: This temporary full-time position is for approximately 17 months in duration (Ending December 17, 2027).* Hours of Work: This is a non-union position that works 35 hours per week. The hours of work are generally Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility required.* Town Perks: The Town offers temporary full-time staff a comprehensive benefit package with paid sick and vacation days; Health&Dental benefits coverage; Employee&Family Assistance Program; Health&Wellness Program; Town of Ajax Fitness Centre Combo membership; plus a defined benefits pension plan (OMERS pension - Hybrid Work Program: The Town offers a Hybrid Work Program.
