Company Overview Butler Disposal and Recycling is a family owned waste management company serving the Greater Toronto Area for over 50 years. We pride ourselves on delivering experience, competitive pricing, and fast, reliable service to our customers.
Summary We are seeking a dedicated Dispatcher to coordinate waste collection and recycling operations throughout the GTA. This role is vital in ensuring efficient scheduling and communication to support our company's mission of reliable service and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Manage transportation management systems to optimize routes and schedules.
Communicate effectively with drivers, clients, and team members via multi-line phone systems.
Maintain accurate data entry and documentation related to pickups, and deliveries.
Analyze operational data to improve dispatch efficiency.
Collaborate with logistics partners to ensure timely freight and shipping operations.
Utilize 'Trux' Waste Management Computer system.
Expectations
Efficiently/profitably route the fleet of trucks by densifying the routes, to get more calls done in the same amount of time
Manage disposal costs through routing to more profitable transfer stations (while maintaining call volume and customer satisfaction)
Manage all customer calls and routing throughout the evening and weekend– work on reducing these through weekday call completions and Saturday preplanning
Maintain customer satisfaction and driver satisfaction
Reduce 407 usage if it can be managed without impacting transfer costing and customer satisfaction
Improve/monitor Front End profitability optimizing routes (possibly bring inhouse some of the current sub-contracted work)
Direct line supervisor for the Roll-off and Front End drivers– managing their supervision, discipline, wages including evaluating their quarterly bonus and annual performance reviews to keep driver retention at a consistent level each year.
Daily Tasks
Answer all phone calls and emails with customer satisfaction top of mind while routing them appropriately
Set-up new customers in Trux Routing System ensuring all fields are filled out properly– get salesman to supply answers to missing field areas i.e.: accounts payable email address, etc.
Schedule all calls as they are called in or set-up on a routing basis for calls that are set each week.
Assign calls for the day to the drivers, optimizing the Google mapping feature to get as much efficiency as possible
Monitor on the screen driver downtime and address any issues daily
Manage customer issues and elevate to Operations Manager if needed
Manage driver issues and address any discipline or acknowledge positive behavior with a conversation and a memo in their file– elevate to Operations Manager if not able to rectify
Reconcile destruction loads with back-up and issue destruction letters
Reconcile cardboard baler loads matching disposal tickets to Recycling Invoices from suppliers
Record all waste slips on a spreadsheet
Work with HR department to facilitate driver training to promote a safe workplace
This job requires working hours of 7:00AM - 4:30PM Monday to Friday, with additional ability to be able to answer occasional phone calls outside of working hours.
