Selkirk Elementary School is located within the traditional territory of the people of Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. Selkirk Elementary School is a dual track English/French elementary school, Grades K - 7 with a student population of approximately 340. Key to Selkirk Elementary School’s philosophy is the incorporation of social emotional learning, developmentally responsive practice, and structured literacy and numeracy programming

Position: Temp Teacher Part-Time Core French/French Literacy Support
FTE: 0.7
Start Date: August 20, 2026
End Date: June 11, 2027
Assignment: Core French/French Literacy Support
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor of Education or equivalent with qualifications Grades K to 7
Fully Bilingual written and spoken French and English language
Experience with the Neurolinguistic Approach (L’ANL) in French language instruction, or a strong interest in learning and implementing this approach
Understands structured literacy programs and can support classroom teachers (an asset)
Experience teaching Core French in a classroom setting (an asset)
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability
Knowledge of effective instructional practices in structured literacy and numeracy including the ability to apply assessment for, as and of student learning within an inclusive French Immersion context
Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population
Strong ability to adapt and modify curriculum to meet a range of learning styles and abilities
Ability to use developmentally responsive approaches to develop effective relationships with students
Experience in strong classroom management by setting clear routines and fostering a positive, structured learning environment
Ability to assess students’ learning and report progress to parents/guardians using Assessment for Learning and outcome-based grading principles on a competency-based curricular framework
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills working with parents, staff members, consultants, and community agencies
Willingness and ability to participate in the total school program
Experience implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in a primary classroom
An appreciation of the cultural diversity of the Yukon with the ability to incorporate and promote this diversity within the school community
Conditions of Employment
Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
