Job Summary And Requirements This posting is to fill 2 Term positions, working 75 hours bi-weekly. The first term opportunity will be 18 months in length, and the second term will be 6 months in length. Temporary Assignments (TAs) may be considered. Who We Are… The Executive Council Office is the centre of excellence for the Government of Yukon. We are leaders in the modernization of government standards and processes. We provide central strategic advice to advance government priorities through policy development, communications, intergovernmental relations, Indigenous relations, major project management, youth initiatives, Indigenous and scientific knowledge and by supporting the Water Board and the Commissioner’s Office. We also provide direct support to the Premier and Cabinet. The First Nations Relations and Treaty Implementation Division of the Executive Council Office provides leadership and advice to support a strategic, government-wide approach to reconciliation and collaboration with Indigenous governments, communities and organizations. The Division leads and supports negotiations with Indigenous governments, collaborates with Indigenous governments on shared priorities and advises Yukon government departments on how to strengthen relationships, fulfill consultation obligations and implement agreements with Indigenous governments. The Intergovernmental Affairs team of the First Nations Relations and Treaty Implementation Division works directly with Yukon First Nation government partners in support of government-to-government arrangements that formalize and enhance working together on shared goals and priorities. We also provide corporate leadership and advice within the Yukon government related to building strong working relationships and supporting capacity development with Yukon First Nation governments. The opportunity… The Senior Advisor is responsible for coordinating and supporting the Yukon government’s participation in the Yukon Forum, Intergovernmental Forum and other government-to-government meetings and processes with Yukon First Nations; leading the process for developing and implementing government-to-government accords with Yukon First Nations; and providing corporate leadership, support and advice regarding First Nation relations, governance and capacity development across the Yukon government. This position works with the team, other First Nations Relations and Treaty Implementation teams, Yukon government departments and Yukon First Nation partners and provides support, advice and recommendations to the Manager, Director and Assistant Deputy Minister in undertaking this important work. Essential Qualifications Coursework in Public Administration, Governance, First Nation Studies, Political Science or any related discipline. Experience leading complex joint projects and initiatives involving multiple partners (preferably in a government setting). Experience developing and implementing plans, strategies and agreements (preferably within a government setting). Experience providing recommendations, advice and support to departments and leaders, including presentations, briefings and decision documents (preferably within a government setting). Extensive experience working with First Nation governments and organizations. Working knowledge of Yukon First Nation governance history and context is an asset.
