ELECTRICAL ENGINEER – Yellowknife, Northwest Territories Taylor Architecture Group (TAG) is a Northern-based architecture and engineering firm with a focus on community design work, primarily for First Nation and Inuit communities throughout Northern Canada. Our head office is located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, with satellite offices in Whitehorse and Ottawa. Projects include mid- to large-scale civic, educational, institutional, and residential facilities, as well as smaller-scale commercial projects. We are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team in our Yellowknife office. The successful candidate will have strong technical and drafting capabilities, experience in building electrical design, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team environment. The role will involve the design, evaluation, selection, and sizing of electrical systems for a variety of building types, along with preparation of design calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documentation. The successful candidate will work closely with architects, engineers, consultants, and project teams across multiple offices and project locations throughout Northern Canada. TAG’s projects are located predominantly in remote communities across the three territories. The successful candidate may have opportunities to travel to project sites and communities throughout the North as part of the design and construction process. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the firm’s lead Electrical Engineer but must be comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines while contributing to design development, drafting, coordination, and client communication. Key Responsibilities: · Engineer must have a Canadian Professional Engineering Certification and be able to be registered in the NWT, Yukon and Nunavut as well as Alberta and BC. · Collaborate closely with Architectural Staff across the Ottawa, Yellowknife and Whitehorse offices. · Must be able to work collaboratively with the TAG Engineering staff across the Ottawa, Yellowknife, and Whitehorse offices. · Manage and coordinate projects with minimal supervision while maintaining project schedules, quality, and deliverables. · Prepare electrical designs and construction drawings for a variety of building types using AutoCAD and Revit. · Work collaboratively with engineering staff across all TAG offices to support project design, drafting, and technical coordination. · Complete, or assist in the preparation of, design reports, building assessments, system assessments, and site review reports. · Conduct site visits during construction to perform field reviews, document site conditions, collect information for design purposes, and prepare site review reports and photographic documentation. · Coordinate with project managers, architects, interior designers, structural engineers, civil engineers, mechanical engineers, contractors, and external consultants throughout all project phases. · Prioritize workload effectively to manage multiple projects and overlapping deadlines in a fast-paced environment. · Lead and support the production of electrical construction documentation and drawing packages. · Participate in occasional travel to remote Arctic and sub-Arctic communities. Candidates should be comfortable travelling on small aircraft and working in remote environments. · Utilize AutoCAD and Revit for drafting and design work. Candidates not currently proficient in Revit must be willing to develop proficiency through self-directed learning and company-supported training. About you: · Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience. · Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for registration within Canada. · Minimum of five (5) to ten (10) years of relevant experience in building electrical design and construction projects. · Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), CSA C282 Emergency Electrical Power Supply for Buildings, NFPA 20 Fire Pumps, CAN/ULC-S524 Fire Alarm Systems, and other relevant industry standards. · Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams. · Experience preparing high-quality presentation drawings, working drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. · Ability to coordinate and integrate electrical designs with architectural, civil, structural, and mechanical disciplines. · Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate, and professional reports, correspondence, and technical recommendations. · Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented workplace. · Proficiency in AutoCAD, AGi32, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office Suite. · Experience with Revit is strongly preferred. Candidates without Revit experience should be willing to develop proficiency through training and project work. Length of Employment: This is a full time (37.5 hr/week), permanent position located in Yellowknife, YT.
