Musselman Excavating is seeking a motivated and process-driven individual to help modernize and improve the systems that support our shop operations. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is eager to take ownership, build structure, and help shape the future of a growing department. This role will support the day-to-day organization and long-term improvement of our shop, fleet, and tool crib operations. The successful candidate will work closely with leadership, mechanics, operators, and suppliers to improve workflows, tracking systems, communication, inventory management, maintenance processes, and overall operational efficiency. This role will also play a key part in evaluating, recommending, implementing, and improving software and digital solutions that support shop operations, fleet maintenance, inventory management, work orders, and overall operational efficiency. The successful candidate will help identify gaps in current processes and work alongside leadership to build scalable systems that support the long-term growth of the company. We are looking for someone with a strong interest in business operations, systems, organization, leadership, and continuous improvement. Duties & Responsibilities - Help develop and improve systems, workflows, and processes within the shop and tool crib - Support the organization and tracking of work orders, repairs, maintenance schedules, and service history - Assist with fleet maintenance coordination and preventative maintenance tracking - Help improve inventory organization, parts management, and purchasing procedures - Monitor parts usage, stock levels, and ordering processes to improve efficiency and reduce downtime - Support the implementation of digital tracking systems and operational software - Create organized procedures and documentation for shop operations - Identify inefficiencies and recommend practical operational improvements - Assist with scheduling and communication between field operations, mechanics, and management - Research, evaluate, and recommend software solutions to improve shop, fleet, inventory, and maintenance operations - Assist with the implementation, setup, organization, and ongoing improvement of operational software systems - Help develop processes and training materials to support successful team adoption of new systems and technologies - Work with leadership and employees to identify operational gaps and ensure systems are practical, efficient, and scalable - Continuously review and refine systems and workflows as operational needs evolve - Support shop cleanliness, organization, and overall operational standards - Help foster a positive, accountable, and service-focused culture within the shop - Assist leadership with reporting, tracking, and operational planning - Other duties as assigned Desired Skills & Experience - Post-secondary education in Business, Project Management, or a related field preferred - Ideal for a recent graduate or someone early in their career with strong ambition and organizational skills - Strong interest in systems, process improvement, operations, and leadership - Highly organized with strong attention to detail - Strong communication and problem-solving abilities - Comfortable learning new software and technology systems - Ability to work independently while also collaborating with multiple teams - Mechanically inclined or experience in construction, fleet, shop, or equipment environments is considered a strong asset - Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and grow within the company - Solid sense of accountability and initiative T.
