Professor, Pre-Service Firefighter Education & Training Department: School of Skilled Trades & Apprenticeships Campus: Windsor Posting Type: Internal/External Status: Full-Time Presentation Required: Yes Competition #: 26-F-01 Classification: Academic Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience Closing Date: Monday, May 25, 2026 at 4:30pm Start Date: Mid-August St. Clair College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and student success. Candidates must be available to teach Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am – 9:00pm. The responsibilities of St. Clair College Professors include, but are not limited to: Reporting to the Chair, School of Skilled Trades & Apprenticeships, the Pre-Service Firefighter Education & Training Professor’s primary responsibilities include: - Creating a positive learning environment that accommodate students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and individual learning styles. - Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process. - Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades. - Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning. - Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant. - Working independently and demonstrating initiative. - Working effectively with students, the program team and a variety of internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications: Leadership roles in a municipal fire service are essential. It is expected that the candidate will have a comprehensive working knowledge of current codes, regulations and legislation regarding all aspects of training to enter and remain competent within a Fire Service. Sound knowledge and understanding of all aspects of firefighting and fire and emergency services management; emergency management principles and theory is required. - At least five (5) years’ of diverse experience as a member of a municipal fire service - A minimum NFPA 1001 Level 1 and Level 2, 1021 - Fire Officer I & 1041 Fire Instructor I or equivalent departmental qualifications. - Additional ProBoard certification in NFPA 1006, 1670, 1002, 1035and 1031 would be an asset - Certifications related to a Fire Training Qualified - Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated application of adult educational principles and teaching/assessment methodologies. - Use of technology to support student learning and managing grades. - Superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning and proven approach to life-long learning. Excellent organizational and time management skills. - Self-motivated and independent worker who also functions well in a team environment. - Commitment to diversity and equity are essential to interact effectively with the College’s diverse student and staff population. Understanding of the Ontario community college system. - Flexibility in adapting to change and in participating in consultative decision-making processes.
