We will make sure the correct person contacts you if they need more information or if they can answer your question or concern.* **This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Arviat only.** Reporting to the Supervisor Health Programs the incumbent assists with and supports the provision of diagnostic imaging and laboratory services in community health centers by performing x-rays and related procedures, electrocardiograms (ECG), Holter monitor installations and lab-related duties in order for Nunavummiut to access care in their home community. The incumbent will provide basic x-ray procedures, medical laboratory-related duties, administrative work associated with documenting, processing, and transmitting patient test data to reporting physicians. This position should reduce the number of medical travel requests for diagnostic services. Key responsibilities of the Basic Radiological Technician/Lab Clerk include radiological services within the health center by informing patients (in English or Inuktut) of procedure to be performed, performing medical x-ray procedures within the Basic Radiological Technician scope if practice, ensuring x-ray orders are entered appropriately in Meditech. Laboratory Clerk responsibilities include collecting blood using a closed collection system (i.e. Vacutainer), needle and syringe, and/or micro-collection techniques following Universal Precautions, collecting laboratory samples on patients, preparing biological samples for transportation, monitoring laboratory supplies inventory and placing re-stock orders as needed. Provide clerical support to diagnostic services. Provide electrocardiogram (ECG) and Holter monitor services based on the physician or nurse practitioner referral. The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a High School Diploma. Must have completed the Basic Radiological Technician/Lab Clerk training program (or equivalent) OR is willing to enroll in and complete the BRT/Lab Clerk training program within 3 years of initial hire. Must be able to acquire within a reasonable timeframe and remain current with the following training and certifications: WHMIS 2015, Transportation of Dangerous Goods training, other training, continuing competency education or certifications as deemed necessary by the employer. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required. The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
