Description
The Mackenzie Figure Skating Club (MFSC) is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and community-minded Head Coach to lead and grow our skating programs. This role is ideal for a passionate coach who is eager to develop skaters of all levels while increasing participation in a small, rural club environment. Programs The Head Coach will work with skaters across all levels, including: - PreCanskate - CanSkate - PreSTAR - STARSkate - AdultSkate Key Responsibilities - Deliver Skate Canada programs in alignment with CanSkate, STARSkate, and Competitive Skate guidelines - Provide both group and private instruction across all levels - Coach in freeskate, skills, dance, and choreography - Attend all scheduled ice sessions and be prepared and punctual - Ensure safety standards, rules, and proper techniques are followed - Collaborate with other coaches on skater placement and program delivery - Evaluate skaters and complete required assessments and documentation - Support skaters with on- and off-ice development - Choreograph programs for competitions, ice shows, and special events - Assist with club events including the annual Ice Show, competitions, performances, and seminars - Attend monthly board meetings and provide coaching reports - Communicate absences and arrange substitute coaching as needed - Contribute to additional duties as assigned by the Board Qualifications - Minimum Regional Coach trained (or higher) - Completed STAR 1–5 Assessment Training - Active Skate Canada member in good standing - Off-ice training experience (strength & conditioning, dance, or ballet) is an asset Skills & Attributes - Proven coaching experience, including choreography - Ability and willingness to coach all levels - Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills - Ability to motivate and inspire skaters - Experience working with children - Energetic, creative, and adaptable - Team-oriented with solid collaboration skills - Reliable, organized, and responsible Hours & Commitment - Approximately: o 13 hours/week on-ice o 2.5 hours/week off-ice o 10 hours/week administrative - Additional time required for: o Competitions (Dec–Mar weekends) o Seminars and professional development o Special events Season: Mid-September 2026 to March 2027 (extension pending) Note: Extended time off during the season is strongly discouraged.
