Company Description Liftsafe Group of Companies is a privately owned company that designs, builds, inspects and maintains lifting, material handling, and fall protection systems equipment.
Job Purpose The purpose of this role is to join our dynamic in-house metal fabrication shop team. The role involves working on diverse projects using various materials, such as mild steel and aluminum, and utilizing state‑of‑the‑art equipment. As outlined in this job description, the expectation is for the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications to be efficiently performed and for this individual to contribute to the overall growth of the company. This position is posted due to a current vacancy.
Responsibilities
Fabricate components using materials like mild steel and aluminum.
Operate shop equipment, including forklifts, overhead cranes, and various metalworking machinery.
Detect and report faulty equipment operation or defective materials to supervisors.
Utilize manual or semi‑automatic welding equipment, employing processes such as TIG, GMAW, MCAW, SMAW.
Use fabrication hand tools for precision work.
Monitor fitting and welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Read blueprints of technical drawings.
Mechanical assembly during fabrication to ensure fit up.
Safety Responsibilities
Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines during fabrication and welding activities.
Report any safety concerns promptly.
Ensure proper operation and maintenance of welding equipment.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Qualifications
Valid CWB welding ticket—MCAW Flat or GMAW flat at a minimum.
Additional CWB Aluminum welding ticket(s) considered an asset.
10 years of experience as a fitter‑welder required.
Experience in structural steel and box girder construction.
Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and understanding shop blueprints.
Experience in custom fabrication metal shops.
Overhead crane experience.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Demonstrated quality workmanship.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Proven teamwork, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
Ability to work independently or lead jobs as required.
Working Conditions
Fabrication shop environment.
Frequent noise.
Airborne particles (dust, debris, flame).
Sharp objects and debris.
Varying temperature changes.
Bright light/flame.
Fast‑paced shop environment with frequent movement of materials and machinery.
Physical Requirements
Standing for long periods of time.
Frequent and repetitive movement.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to safely operate forklift.
Able to use manual material handling devices.
