Emergency Management Education Designer Edmonton (Canada)

Role Responsibilities Shape the future of emergency management training in Alberta by designing contemporary, evidence based learning that strengthens the provinces readiness and resilience. The Emergency Management Education Designer plays a pivotal role in building Albertas emergency management capability. Reporting to the Team Lead, EM Education, this position leads the design, development, and continuous improvement of AEMAs applied training productsensuring they reflect contemporary instructional design, adult learning principles, and the evolving needs of local authorities and emergency management partners. This role blends curriculum expertise, stakeholder engagement, and strategic program development to advance a high quality, province wide training system. During emergencies, the position also contributes directly to provincial response efforts through assigned roles in the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre or field deployments. Key Responsibilities Design high quality curricula grounded in explicit learning outcomes, relevant legislation, field expertise, and current emergency management research. Develop and maintain training materials across classroom, virtual, and online environments, ensuring accessibility and relevance for diverse stakeholders. Identify performance gaps and recommend improvements to strengthen the effectiveness and consistency of emergency management training programs. Lead and facilitate advisory groups to integrate industry expertise, stakeholder perspectives, and best practices into training development. Provide instructional design expertise to support reports, briefing materials, presentations, and other organizational communications. Advance internal curriculum processes by formalizing and improving instructional design standards and workflows across programs. Support emergency operations by assuming designated roles in the PECC or field deployments during provincial emergencies.
