Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager, the Registered Dietitian will be responsible for providing professional advice to the senior management team to manage nutrition for our residents, and providing clinical dietetic services to our clients. With the opening our current Highland Park facility, this position may increase in FTE. THE ROLE Key Accountabilities - Demonstrate, promote and advocate the Wing Kei vision, mission and core values. - Develop and oversee nutritional assessments, including initial assessment, MDS quarterly assessment and reassessment related to condition change for all Wing Kei clients within the time frame specified by Wing Kei. - Identify and assess nutrition needs for clients to maintain the nutritional status consistent with the health goals; maintain up-to-date nutritional status records of clients. - Conduct and oversee follow-up nutritional assessment within a time frame appropriate to care plans. - Evaluate and monitor clients’ eating/feeding ability and rehabilitation potential as related to the maintenance of adequate nutrition and make appropriate referral to members of the Health Care Team. - Conduct unit visitations on a regular basis to monitor and evaluate the diet tolerance of residents including their satisfactions with food selection, preparation, service, and the overall dining experience. - Attend resident and family care conferences as required, providing written updates. - Provide consultation in menu and recipes planning. - Effectively plan and provide training and consultation in the dietary related areas. - Participate in management of quality dietary services and food and nutrition policy management, including providing support to relevant committees and meetings; sets standards for dietary services including development and monitoring of policies and procedures as well as quality assurance and quality improvement programs. - Ensure compliance with relevant government legislations and policies and Ministry standards and consistent application of quality assurance programs. - Provides training and consultation to new dieticians and food services supervisors - Participates in in-service programs, professional development and keeps up to date with developments and best practices in field. - in creating and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. - Understanding and following health and Safety rules, regulations and practices such as fire, emergency response training, WHMIS, data security and infection control. THE INDIVIDUAL WHO WILL SUCCEED - Is aligned with Wing Kei’s vision and mission to continue to deliver excellence in seniors care. - Active registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta as a registered dietitian; current membership with Dietitians of Canada is preferred. - 3 years professional experience in nutrition in healthcare or long term care setting is preferred. - Experience in quality assurance, planning and research to enhance resident care and improve the cost effectiveness of dietary service is an asset. - Is dependable and self-motivated. - Effective Communication skills including writing and speaking; ability to communicate in Cantonese or Mandarin with the residents is an asset. - Customer service-orientated and ability to relate well to individuals; works well with interdisciplinary teams. - Knowledge or Experience working with traditional Chinese dishes, basic understanding of food service operation and the ability to plan menu using traditional Chinese dishes is an asset. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Location: Calgary Status: Permanent Part Time (0.5 FTE). With the opening our new Highland Park facility, this position may increase in FTE. Work Hours: 20 hours per week.
