12431 Stony Plain Rd, Edmonton, AB T5N 3N3, Canada Senior Financial Analyst – Edmonton (Full-time) Job Summary Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for the finance function in one or more of our service areas. The role includes assisting Management with negotiating funding agreements, cost allocations among programs, preparing and monitoring budgets, strengthening internal controls, preparing monthly financial statements, contractual financial reporting, liaising with auditors, analyzing current systems/processes and recommending improvements, and mentoring service area staff on financial matters. Supports the Agency’s vision, mission, values, and ethics, treating all persons with humility, compassion, and respect. Acts as a positive role model and professional ambassador for the Agency. Communicates effectively and respectfully in a professional and confidential manner with all employees and external stakeholders, both verbally and in writing. Establishes and maintains respectful, collaborative working relationships with employees and external stakeholders. Prepares internal/external financial reporting on the status of contracts. Coordinates the preparation and maintenance of disbursements and financial reporting for funding agreements. Interprets contract provisions and responds to inquiries regarding contractual obligations. Analyzes, problem‑solves, and recommends solutions to contract‑related issues. Assists in contract negotiations with government and other funders. Provides support in the development of Agency business proposals. Assists in development of monthly forecasts, annual budgets, and strategic plans. Manages receipt and initiation of stakeholder concerns by resolving or diffusing issues in a timely manner. Develops effective strategies and processes to ensure appropriate allocation of funding to multiple programs. Participates in financial planning activities and annual audits. Liaises with multiple levels of internal/external stakeholders. Maintains a wide variety of accounting information, files, and records in written and electronic formats to provide an up‑to‑date reference and audit trail for compliance. Identifies gaps in processes, practices, and guidelines and develops or recommends improvements and best practices. Identifies risks and issues, suggesting alternatives that lead to the best solution. Contributes to implementation of policies, procedures, and internal controls; ensuring policies and procedures are documented and communicated appropriately. General Responsibilities Ensures appropriate and confidential handling and storage of client/Agency information and documentation in accordance with Agency policies, procedures, and standards. Initiates ongoing process improvements within and assists with the implementation of approved proposals, procedures, and reports as assigned. Assists in training and supporting new employees and colleagues with AP and AR procedures and processes. Reports incidents to manager or designate in a timely manner. Follows health and safety protocols while adhering to Agency policies and procedures. Maintains a pleasant and safe work environment, ensuring high levels of cleanliness, comfort, and safety. Completes and submits regular and ad hoc reports and documentation as per standard procedures on or before assigned due dates. Attends and actively participates in scheduled meetings, supporting team initiatives and helping to identify problems and suggest solutions. Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Business Administration or equivalent from a recognized educational institution. Having a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is an asset. Additional relevant certifications or designations are considered an asset. Minimum of five (5) years of related accounting and finance experience, preferably in a not‑for‑profit setting. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience preparing working papers for external audits. Prior financial analysis, budgeting, and strategic planning experience is an asset. Prior leadership/supervisory experience is preferred. Experience working within an ERP financial system is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. A reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and third‑party liability insurance (amount of two million) is required. Driver’s Abstract with less than six (6) demerit points current within one (1) year. Police Information Check current within six (6) months. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Advanced knowledge and proficiency in using applicable Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel and Word. Proficient in use of other Agency‑assigned computer applications, systems, and databases. Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accounting principles, practices, and applications. Forward‑thinking, analytical, with strong planning and technical accounting abilities. Strong customer‑relation skills, client‑service attitude, and commitment to providing exceptional service and quality results with empathy and compassion. Strong English‑language communication skills, both verbal and written, with active listening, understanding, comprehension, and compliance with all job requirements. Awareness of and sensitivity towards individuals with diverse needs. Ability and willingness to work in and contribute to a diverse and inclusive team environment that may include a wide range of beliefs, lifestyles, languages, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds. Ability and willingness to work outside of regular business hours as required to meet Agency needs; advance notice will be provided when possible. Ability and willingness to frequently travel, as required, to different offices, programs, and other sites to work, attend, and/or conduct meetings, presentations, and/or training. Working Conditions Works in a standard office environment with office equipment or from a home office with standard office equipment and a reliable internet connection. Regular, frequently prolonged use of computer. Primarily works regular business hours; however, the incumbent may be required to occasionally work outside of regular hours to meet Agency needs. Advance notice will be provided when possible. Regular interactions with external contacts including vendors, funders, and key stakeholders. Regular interactions with internal employees. Frequent travel (approximately 25% to 75% of time on the job) within Edmonton and Central Alberta is required. Work remotely.
