Lotus Group is excited to partner with our client in the search for an experienced Shop Manager to join their custom machine shop in Edmonton, Alberta. Our client is a well-established and growing manufacturer specializing in custom machining, tubular goods, and flow control components. As they continue to grow, they are seeking a driven leader who can take ownership of their state-of-the-art machine shop and coating line while helping elevate operations, efficiencies, and overall service offerings. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is passionate about operational excellence. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing CNC production, managing workflow and orders, improving efficiencies, and mentoring and developing the shop team. The ideal candidate brings a strong machining background combined with proven leadership experience. They are a proactive problem-solver who can confidently support production demands, drive continuous improvement initiatives, maintain high quality standards, and foster an exceptional customer experience. Role Responsibilities: - Assign and coordinate daily work to machinists, operators, and technicians. - Monitor employee performance and provide coaching, training, or corrective action. - Lead daily start-up meetings and communicate job priorities. - Address quality issues immediately and implement corrective actions. - Demonstrate operation of CNC and manual machines when required. - Solve machining problems such as tool wear, chatter, incorrect dimensions, or poor finishes. - Schedule and track preventive maintenance on all shop equipment. - Report and coordinate repair needs. - Ensure machines, tools, and work areas are clean and properly maintained. - Monitor and order cutting tools, materials, coolant, and consumables. - Ensure the shop has the correct tooling and fixtures for upcoming jobs. - Maintain production records, job travelers, time sheets, and inspection logs. - Report production status to upper management. Role Requirements: - Journeyman Machinist Ticket or Red Seal certification is considered a strong asset. - Proven ability to manage and lead teams of 10+. - Comfortable working within the Microsoft Office Suite. - Strong working knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation, including the OHS Act, Regulation, and Code. - Proven success conducting safety audits, hazard assessments, incident investigations, implementing corrective action, leading toolbox meetings, and promoting safety culture across diverse teams. - Experience in a custom or batch-production environment is preferred. - Skilled at building shop-floor rapport while enforcing standards and operational discipline. - Hands-on understanding of production, scheduling, quality control, and shop safety. - Demonstrated problem-solving skills within a fast-paced setting. - Comfortable navigating ambiguity and leading through change with a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude. - Proven leadership and team-building skills, with a track record of fostering positive team culture and high performance. - Strong written and verbal communication skills.
