Senior Full Stack Engineer - Java/React (Halifax)

Position Description: We are Canada’s largest independent information technology services firm, expanding in Atlantic Canada. We are seeking an experienced Senior Full‑Stack Developer with strong back‑end skills in Java and front‑end expertise in React, and extensive experience with modern web technologies and frameworks. This hybrid role requires 2–3 days a week at any CGI Atlantic location: Halifax, NS; Moncton or Fredericton, NB; Stratford, PE; or St. John’s, NL. Responsibilities: Develop, optimize, and maintain backend services using Java and Node.js Design and implement RESTful and GraphQL APIs using Apollo Server Work with relational databases, primarily PostgreSQL (transitioning from MySQL) Implement caching strategies with Redis to enhance application performance Build and deploy applications in AWS environments using services such as Lambda, ECS, SQS, and RDS Support CI/CD processes using GitHub Actions and troubleshoot build/deploy pipelines Integrate React with backend APIs for a seamless user experience Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, estimations, and retrospectives Follow DevOps best practices in building and managing Docker images, containers, and orchestrations Qualifications: 6+ years of Java/Node.js backend development experience 6+ years working with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) Deep understanding of REST, GraphQL, and event‑based systems 5+ years of experience building and scaling AWS‑hosted applications 4+ years working with caching systems, ideally Redis Hands‑on experience in Agile and Continuous Deployment environments Solid understanding of Git and GitHub‑based workflows Nice to have experience building and managing Docker containers Nice to have familiarity with container orchestration (AWS ECS, Kubernetes) Nice to have experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions Skills: Amazon Relational Database Service Front End Development GitHub GraphQL PostgreSQL RESTful API development What you can expect from us: You will work in a culture of ownership, teamwork, respect, and belonging, with opportunities to grow your skills and shape your career in a global organization.
