General Manager The Sharing Place Food Centre | Orillia, Ontario Reports To: Executive Director Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week (5 days) Compensation: $90,000 – $100,000 + benefits Location: On-site in Orillia; local travel across Simcoe County as needed Requirements: Valid G licence, insured personal vehicle, clean abstract About The Sharing Place The Sharing Place Food Centre (TSP) is not a typical food bank. We’re Orillia’s community food Centre, a forward-thinking food security organization with a diverse set of programs. We operate six programs across two pillars: Support Today (Food Bank, School Fuel, Meals-4-Change, Food Recovery) and Transform Tomorrow (Food Systems and Advocacy). We serve thousands of community members annually with a team of approximately 10 staff, 200+ volunteers, and an annual budget of roughly $2M. We’re in a moment of real momentum. As food insecurity grows across our region, TSP is evolving, expanding our reach, building new systems, and positioning ourselves as a model for what community food organizations can become. We work with farmers, municipal governments, school boards, universities, and regional networks to change not just how food is distributed, but how it’s grown, accessed, and valued. We’re serious about dignity, kindness, and building a stigma-free environment, and we genuinely enjoy doing it together. We work hard, we have fun, and we care deeply about the people we serve and the community we’re building. Why This Role Exists TSP is at an inflection point. Demand is increasing. Our programs are expanding. And our Executive Director is stepping into a broader regional leadership role to help advance food systems change, building partnerships across Simcoe County, and positioning TSP as a driver of real, structural change in how communities feed themselves. That requires someone exceptional running the day-to-day. This is a rare opportunity to lead a high-performing, values-driven team at a critical moment in its growth. You’ll have real authority, a clear mandate, and a leader who wants to build you up, not micromanage. You’ll inherit a strong team, strong programs, and a culture people love being part of. This is not a behind-the-desk role. The GM is present and visible, known by staff, volunteers, the people we serve and our broader community. You will directly manage four program managers (Operations, Member Services, Kitchen/Meals-4-Change, and Volunteer Coordination) and partner with Finance & HR for people matters within your portfolio. Core Responsibilities1. Lead and Develop Your Team - Directly manage and coach four program managers: Operations, Member Services, Kitchen/Meals-4-Change, and Community Engagement & Volunteer Coordinator. - Lead with calm, clarity, and genuine care. Be the kind of leader people want to work for. - Run effective team huddles, one-on-ones, and program reviews; keep work plans current and priorities transparent. - Help your team navigate challenges, grow in their roles, and deliver excellent programs. - Partner with Finance & HR on HR matters within your portfolio — hiring, onboarding, performance, and workplace culture. 2. Deliver Strong Programs - Oversee day-to-day operations across all four programs, ensuring they run well and serve community members with dignity. - Understand the realities of food insecurity and poverty, not just the programs that address them, but the lived experiences of the people who walk through our doors. - Ensure our environment is consistently inclusive, stigma-free, and grounded in respect — for members and volunteers alike. - Lead seasonal surge planning (holiday hampers, donation drives, peak periods) with clear cross-team coordination. - Support continuity planning and coordinate during disruptions, ensuring fair workload distribution and care for your team. 3. Own the Operational Rhythm - Monitor program budgets, monthly variance, and performance indicators; coach managers to stay on plan and flag risks early. - Establish a rhythm of monthly program scorecards and regular check-ins with the Executive Director. - Lead the development and refresh of SOPs, policies, and program manuals — built for quality and designed to be replicable. - Ensure compliance with safety, privacy, and ethical service standards across all programs. 4. Embrace Technology and AI - You’re genuinely comfortable with Microsoft 365 — Teams, SharePoint, Planner, Excel, OneDrive are part of how you work, not something you tolerate. - You actively use and embrace AI tools to improve your workflows, communications, and decision-making. You’re curious about what technology can free you up to do better work. - Help your team build digital confidence and adopt tools that make their work easier and more impactful. 5. Build Community and Partnerships - Build and maintain strong relationships with partner agencies across Simcoe County; inspire your program managers to do the same. - Represent TSP programs confidently in community settings, with media, and with stakeholders when appropriate. - Ensure partnership agreements are explicit, effective, and aligned with our values. - Actively participate in the Simcoe County Food Council Food Access Working Group. - Establish strong alignment with Feed Ontario, Food Banks Canada, Right to Food, and other provincial and national organizations. Who You Are We care more about who you are than where you’ve been. Here’s what matters to us: - You lead by empowering people, not managing them. You know when to step in and when to step back. - You understand poverty and food insecurity — not just the programs that address them, but the dignity of the people experiencing them. - You’re calm under pressure. Things get hectic here (holiday hampers, volunteer surges, unexpected disruptions) — you stay grounded and keep others grounded too. - You’re organized and systems-minded, but you don’t let process get in the way of people. - You’re genuinely comfortable with technology and curious about how AI and digital tools can improve your work. - You’re kind. Not soft — kind. You hold people accountable with care, not fear. - You communicate well: in writing, in meetings, one-on-one, and in front of a group. - You can work autonomously and make confident decisions without constant check-ins. - You’re energized by the idea of joining an organization that is growing, evolving, and genuinely trying to change things. Experience & Qualifications The following are helpful indicators, not hard gates. If you’re reading this and thinking “that’s me” — we want to hear from you. - 5+ years of experience leading teams — in community services, food systems, social services, logistics, hospitality, or any sector where people and outcomes matter. - Experience managing multiple programs or departments simultaneously. - Strong financial literacy: you can read a budget, identify variance, and have the right conversations when things are off track. - Comfortable managing large-scale volunteer operations, or highly transferable experience with high-engagement community teams. - Familiarity with food bank or community food programs is an asset, not a requirement. - Experience working in regional networks and multi-stakeholder environments is a bonus. - Valid G driver’s licence, reliable insured vehicle, clean abstract.
