Position Program Worker – Food Services Hours: 30 hours per week Current rate: $28.29 per hour Locations are determined by the Food Services Coordinator and may change. Initial location: Valley View Elementary Qualifications Grade 12 education and a valid Food Safe Level 2 certification Knowledge of nutrition, health and safety standards related to food service sanitation Minimum of one year current work experience in food services Experience using basic computer programs to support menu planning, communication and administrative tasks Experience working effectively with students, staff and parents Ability to liaise with suppliers Valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s licence and a personal vehicle available for use on the job Meets the physical requirements of the position Ability to work independently and as a member of a team Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Duties & Responsibilities Assist under the supervision of the school Principal or Vice Principal. Complete program-related administrative tasks, including menu planning, documentation, and communication with parents and caregivers. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students to inspire, educate and empower them to eat a varied diet by encouraging participation in the kitchen and garden. Facilitate the School Food Program and activities according to established procedures. Ensure appropriate inventory levels of food and supplies. Order and arrange delivery of necessary items from suppliers as required and shop in‑person at local retailers, supporting B.C. food production where possible. Follow proper health and safety standards related to food service sanitation, handling and storing of food supplies, and provide leadership and orientation to ensure parent volunteers and/or student helpers abide by the same standards. Provide suggestions to improve the cost‑effectiveness of the food services program. Maintain appropriate records and ensure confidentiality of student information. Follow proper work procedures, observe all regulations pertinent to the work, maintain a good working relationship with other employees, and cooperate in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor. Provide student supervision as required by the Principal or Vice Principal.
