Registered Nurse - Apheresis Stem Cell Collection (Toronto)

Position Summary As a member of the UHN and the Nursing Interdisciplinary Team, the Registered Nurse in the Apheresis Unit practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession. Duties - Perform a variety of apheresis and photopheresis procedures in accordance with UHN policies and FACT SOPs. - Assess patients/donors pre, during and post apheresis procedures. - Recognize and effectively treat patient/donor adverse reactions. - Safely transfuse blood components and manage fluid volumes while performing apheresis procedures. - Operate apheresis equipment. - Initiate, perform and terminate apheresis procedures independently in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice for Nursing and the mission & vision of nursing at UHN. - Be willing to undergo a Criminal Record Check as part of the hiring process. Qualifications - Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario. - Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) and CPR certification. - Previous apheresis experience preferred. - Excellent IV and venipuncture skills. - Experience accessing central venous catheters, port-a-cath and PICC lines. - Flexibility to adapt to changing environments and travel between Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto General Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to work cooperatively within an interdisciplinary team and independently. - Proficiency in conducting functional health assessments, psychosocial assessment and intervention, and patient/family health teaching. - Leadership and organisation skills with strong decision‑making ability. - Commitment to self‑directed, lifelong learning. - Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario preferred.
