Technical Development Research Officer (Database and Dashboard) About this position Northern Ontario Research, Development, Ideas and Knowledge (NORDIK) Institute is an innovative community-based research institute affiliated with Algoma University. It is committed to the practice of holistic community development and has established strong links with other research institutes, universities, and colleges. NORDIK is committed to building local research capacity by working closely with its community partners and providing mentorship to new researchers and community development practitioners. About the role Supervised by : Community Support Team Lead/Waa' Naadmaaged Wages : $45,000/year Duration of employment : Permanent Anticipated start date : August 3, 2026 Primary Function : NORDIK Institute is an innovative, community-based research and knowledge sharing hub dedicated to supporting the CSAA’s mission in supporting the 85 communities impacted by the Shingwauk Residential School through “sharing, healing and learning”. We are currently seeking a Technical Development Research Officer (Database and Dashboard) to provide support to a number of initiatives under the supervision of the Community Support Team Lead/Waa' Naadmaaged. Responsibilities Oversee and coordinate administrative procedures and review, evaluate and implement new procedures for coordination, procurement, development and implementation of language services for the Shingwauk database and dashboard to improve accessibility. Establish work priorities for technical team and support staff, and ensure deadlines are met and cultural protocols and procedures are followed. Administer policies and procedures related to the release of records in processing requests under government access to information and privacy legislation for Survivors of Shingwauk Indian Residential School. Coordinate and plan for services such as accommodation, relocations, equipment, supplies, forms, disposal of assets, parking, maintenance and security services. Conduct analyses and oversee administrative operations related to budgeting, contracting and project planning and management processes. Assist in preparation of operating budget and maintain inventory and budgetary controls. Assemble data and prepare periodic and special reports, manuals and correspondence. May supervise records management technicians and related staff. Attend regular supervisory and NORDIK Team meetings (including 2-3 meetings per month for the entire NORDIK team). Attend professional development training and activities provided by NORDIK. Qualifications Master’s degree in Computer Science Engineering or closely related field is strongly desired. Experience in a senior clerical or executive secretarial position related to office administration, or related field (including administration-focused research positions), is required. Excellent understanding of backend languages such as Python. Advanced debugging and profiling skills. Sound experience in any of the backend languages mentioned is mandatory. Experience in unit/integration testing. Understanding of front-end coding (adaptive design, lazy loading, caching, build pipelines and packaging). Proficiency with machine learning and deep learning models. Experience with backend API development using FastAPI (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) and PySpark. Familiarity with cloud technologies such as GCP. Proficiency in version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong organization and time management skills. Demonstrated experience working with community-serving teams. Optional Assets Experience working in a projectized workplace and/or non-profit organization. Experience working with Indigenous communities, Survivors of Indian Residential Schools, and/or other trauma-facing demographics.
