Description
Position Overview Reporting to the Lead – Physical Plant Services, the Engineer 5th Class is responsible for monitoring and maintaining building and medical‑related systems and equipment in a 5th‑class plant. The incumbent exercises appropriate initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods and actions on unusual matters, and works consistently with the mission, vision, values and policies of Southern Health‑Santé Sud. Experience Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a maintenance position. Previous experience working with electrical, carpentry, plumbing, heating or air‑conditioning. Education Power Engineering – 5th Class Certificate as recognized by the Province of Manitoba. Other suitable combinations of education and experience may be considered. Certification / Licensure / Registration Not Applicable Qualifications and Skills Knowledge and understanding of equipment and systems in a 5th‑class plant. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams and equipment manuals. Knowledge of various mechanical equipment and their functions. Knowledge of proper operation and maintenance of yard care equipment. Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and their purpose. Knowledge of basic safe work legislation and practices. Knowledge of Fire Codes and CSA standards. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and Outlook. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, attend to detail, work in a fast‑paced changing environment, and solve problems. Strong written and oral communication and ability to build and maintain professional relationships. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, prioritize in a changing environment, and perform required calculations. Respect for a culturally diverse population and commitment to confidentiality. Positive work and attendance record. Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all‑purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000. Completion of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Child Abuse Registry Check (assumption of service charges). Physical Requirements Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job. Work in a variety of temperatures, including extreme heat or cold. Work with hazardous chemicals when required. Be on call evenings and weekends as necessary, responding to the facility within 20 minutes when on call.
